Philip Gillin started his career in the real estate business in 1979 and retired in 2019. Most recently, he was Executive Vice President and Portfolio Manager of Bentall GreenOak (a member of the Sun Life Group of companies). In that role, Mr. Gillin was responsible for the portfolio strategy, risk management, investment transactions and asset management for the Canadian real estate equity, conventional commercial mortgage and construction lending portfolios for Sun Life. He was also the portfolio manager for two pooled mortgage funds managed by Bentall Kennedy on behalf of third party investors. From 1998 until 2015, Mr. Gillin held various positions at Sun Life, managing real estate and mortgage portfolios and he also chaired the Company’s sustainability committee from 2011 until 2019. Prior to joining Sun Life, Mr. Gillin was employed by The Cadillac Fairview Corporation from 1979 until 1996 in a variety of roles including development and leasing.
Mr Gillin is a former director of the Real Property Association of Canada (REALPac) and Toronto NAIOP. He is currently a director of the Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto and of Toronto Artscape Inc.
Mr. Gillin obtained his Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business, York University, and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario.
