Joseph Shaw

Vice President & Chief Investment Officer

Mr. Shaw has over 25 years of real estate and finance industry experience. Prior to joining MCAN, Mr. Shaw was Managing Director, Investments at a large Canadian financial institution, responsible for the acquisition and disposition of Canadian and American commercial real estate. Mr. Shaw has previous investment banking experience specializing in real estate at two Schedule I Chartered banks.

Mr. Shaw holds the CFA designation, a MSc in Real Estate from Johns Hopkins University, a MBA (Finance) from the University of Windsor, and an Honours BA (Urban Development) from the University of Western Ontario. Mr. Shaw teaches at the University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario and having previously taught at Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, Ryerson University, the Urban Land Institute and the Real Estate Property Association of Canada.

Currently, Mr. Shaw is President-Elect of Greater Toronto NAIOP and Chairman of the Independent Review Committee of Edgepoint Wealth Management, a Canadian regulated investment management company. Mr. Shaw has been an active volunteer with the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute since 1997 as a grading captain, editor of curriculum and member of the Council of Examiners.

Mr. Shaw volunteers for Sleeping Children Around the World, a federally registered charity supplying necessities to third world children, as Portfolio Manager.
